SNL Archives

The answer to most any question one may have about Saturday Night Live can be found at The SNL Archive. Strangley, another resource seems to reside at that site, but is found through a back door. It is the SNL transcripts site.

One of the funniest skits I’ve ever seen was the “Out of Africa” skit in the ’94 season opener show starring Charles Barkley/Nirvana. In the skit Rob Schnieder owns a primitive African art store where seemingly every item has a place to “put your weeeeed in it”. I looked for this skit when this episode reran on Comedy Central, however it was edited out when they whittled the show to fit the 1-hour format. Unfortunately it remains a lost piece of SNL lore.

Windows Wallpapers

The best Windows Wallpaper site I’ve seen is Socksoff, a site in the UK.

NYC Skyscrapers

New York City Skyscrapers is a great site for learning about each of the Great Apple’s highrise buildings. Especially impressive is the interactive aerial photo of downtown.

The Best Dish…Anywhere

rm-logo.pngBeing a complete fiend for well-cooked Mexican food, I’ve found that dish that really does it for me at Rosa Mexicano. If you are in NYC, DC, Atlanta, or Palm Beach, you must seek:

Alambre a la Mexicana

Grilled cubes of beef tenderloin, chorizo, onions, tomatoes and Serrano peppers with tomatillo and tomato-chipotle sauces. Served over house rice.

What’s so great about the dish is that there are so many flavor combinations on the plate. The beef with the chipotle sauce tastes totally different than the chorizo with tomatillo or the rice and onions. It’s so good that their world-famous guacamole only stands as a prelude. Wow.

Car Ad

scan0003.jpgI’m not even sure what car this is advertising, but I thought it looked pretty neat. Anyone interested in recreating this pose at the Broughton Class of 1987 reunion?

UNC Hoops Schedule for Outlook and Portables

ram_tarheels.gifTar Heel fans who like electronic calendars rejoice! I’ve uploaded the 2007-2008 UNC basketball schedule in the .CSV format.

Outlook/Palm Users:

  • Create a new folder in your in Outlook calendar (Heels08, for example). Use the File | Import and Export… to import from “another program or file”, then “Comma Separated File (Windows)”. This will set up the Heels’ schedule in your new sub-calendar where you can make whatever changes you want.
  • When you are happy with the way the subcalendar looks, change the calendar view to “Events” (instead of 7-day or 31-Day or whatever view you’re using). “Select All” from the list, and drag them over to your main “Calendar” (The Treo and other Palm Handhelds only sync to the main calendar – time for Palm to get with the program on that one!). If you want to keep your sub calendar intact, use Ctrl-drag instead of plain drag. That will create a copy of each event to the main Calendar and keep the Heels08 calendar in place. Sync your handheld to copy the events to the handheld.
